Bad Blood: Cincinnati vs. MSU

Interesting take from a war being staged by new Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly vs. MSU and new coach Mark Dantonio. The article below is PG compared to the things being said on the Cincinnati and MSU football message boards at various sites.

Brian Kelly, of course, was the head coach the past 3 season at Central Michigan. Many believed he finished a close 2nd to Mark Dantonio for the Michigan State job. In an ironic twist, Cincinnati hired him to replace Dantonio.

Anyway, a current player decided he doesnt want to play for Kelly, and attempted to follow Dantonio to MSU. To put it lightly, Kelly wanted no part of that. In case people dont know, Kelly can be a very arrogant and cocky person. Dont cross him, or you will pay. However, he is a hell of a football coach, just look at what he did with Grand Valley and CMU.

Kelly wouldnt sign a scholarship release for the player, Trevor Anderson, to transfer to MSU. However, he said he could go to Michigan or Eastern Michigan among others. Either it can be viewed as Kelly doing the right thing, or trying to stick it to MSU for not hiring him. Here is the Cincinnati Enquirer link to it all, showing the dirty, almost non-reported shady activity that goes on in Division l athletics. http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070620/SPT0101/706200391/1064

By the way, look out for Central Michigan this year in football and basketball. The football team won the MAC last year, and even while losing a 1st and 2nd round pick to the NFL, brings back another sickly stacked team. They could be scary for a while. As for basketball, Ernie Zeigler has only been coach for 1 year, but has put his stamp on recruiting very quickly. This team has the best returning player in Giordan Watson with a host of top flight recruits, including JC superstar Nate Minnoy. Ill write more on CMU in the future, as this "small" school up north who nobody follows could be creating an athletic dynasty in the MAC.
